BFS Assignment #100 - Oh What a Feeling

School

Assignment: Take time this week to write about YOU and your feelings of trials and triumphs with homeschooling. Touch on when you first heard about the concept of home schooling and whether you tip-toed into the idea or just jumped in and never looked back. Share your schooling as a child and how you compare it to what your goals are for your children.

This one I have to think about. I thought about homeschooling when I was working and my oldest daughter was only 9 months old. There was this lady that would come in to the bank that I worked and she talked to me about homeschooling her daughter. I loved the idea of my child being able to pursue her own interests. She had a daughter that loved horses so part of her studies was on horses. From the point on I researches, and researched, and researched homeschooling. I knew as soon as I could quit working that I was going to homeschool. I have looked back a few times but then my heart and stomach sink and I know that this is where God wants us to be right now.

My schooling as a child was probably typical of most public schooled kids. Nothing to much to tell. Although I can tell you that I am learning more now with my children than when I was in school. It is like they get to learn a subject more in depth. We were pushed through things. My child, if she ever finds an interest in a certain subject, could spend weeks on it. I am allowed to change the schedule but in public schools they can't do that so you just get to dab in subjects.

My goals for my children are to have a love of learning, although this can be a challenge. There are days where you feel like you are losing your mind since they aren't getting something. I need to relax more so they will have this love of learning. When I was in school you just did things to get them done not because you wanted to find out more. I hope they can have this curiosity about a subject and want to find out more.

This was fun

Hey Jenni~ I love your story of homeschooling. I never had a second thought or shoulda, coulda, woulda, when it came to our homeschooling. Sounds like you're doing a wonderful job with your little ones.

I liked your story. I agree with you about learning more now, than in public school. There are things I am learning in the 2nd grade right now that I didn't even learn in high school!

Enjoy your day!

What a great story. I too have had to work and still do part time. I look forward to the day when I can stay at home full time.

I totally agree that I am learning more now than I did when I was in school. I actually enjoy history now. I still don't know the dates by heart but at least I have a better understanding of the time periods...well maybe I will by the time mine are out of school!

I love how we get to learn more in depth by homeschooling. I am growing much stronger in mental math and in understanding world history. It is exciting!
